Money Confidence Starts Here

May 29, 2025

For many entrepreneurs, money is the biggest source of stress—and the least talked-about part of running a business.

We focus on the dream, the product, the mission. But behind every successful small business is a solid understanding of how the money flows.

  • How much is coming in?
  • Where is it going?
  • What does the data actually tell you?

Money can be overwhelming. There are tax deadlines, business expenses, personal expenses, and often, not a lot of clarity about what to do next. But here’s the truth: you don’t need to be a financial expert—you just need the right tools and support.

That's where Money Matters comes in.

Why Money Confidence Matters

Financial confidence is one of the most powerful assets you can develop as an entrepreneur.

When you understand your numbers, you make better decisions. You price your products or services in a way that reflects their value. You prepare for taxes and emergencies instead of being blindsided. You understand what kind of funding or growth strategy makes sense for your unique situation.

And perhaps most importantly: you trust yourself.

You don’t panic when things slow down. You don’t make rushed decisions. You look at the numbers, assess the situation, and take the next right step.

But most entrepreneurs aren’t taught this. They’re thrown into it, learning the hard way.

Money Matters is designed to change that.

What Is Money Matters?

Money Matters is an informal and engaging monthly class hosted by the Women's Business Center at JEDI. It’s built specifically for entrepreneurs and small business owners who want to:

  • Strengthen both their personal and business financial skills

  • Gain confidence in talking about money and making financial decisions

  • Learn in a supportive, shame-free environment

Each month focuses on a new topic—from budgeting and bootstrapping to credit reports, money mindset, and (this month!) bookkeeping.

We focus on practical strategies, not just theory. Every session is a chance to learn, ask questions, and connect with others who are navigating the same journey you are.

Why Bookkeeping?

Think of bookkeeping as the foundation your business stands on.

It’s how you:

  • Track income and expenses

  • Understand cash flow

  • Make smart decisions based on real numbers

  • Prepare for tax season

  • Apply for grants or loans with confidence

Without bookkeeping, it’s like trying to steer a ship without a compass.

The good news? You don’t have to do it perfectly. You just have to start. And our next Money Matters session will show you exactly how.

What You'll Learn in the Next Session

In our upcoming Money Matters class, we'll break down bookkeeping in a way that's clear, simple, and totally manageable—even if you're not a "numbers person."

We'll cover:

  • The difference between bookkeeping and accounting

  • The basics of income and expense tracking

  • Tools that can help (even if you're on a tight budget)

  • How to prepare your books for tax season or funding opportunities

  • Common mistakes new business owners make—and how to avoid them

Whether you're just starting out or have been running your business for years, you'll walk away with practical steps you can take immediately.

Real Talk: Money Mindset Matters Too

Let’s not ignore the elephant in the room: money is emotional.

So many of us carry stories about what we deserve, what we're capable of, or how "bad" we are with money. And those stories can keep us stuck.

In Money Matters, we also talk about mindset. Because clarity isn't just about spreadsheets. It's about healing your relationship with money so you can lead with confidence.

You are not behind. You are not bad with money. You are learning.

And you don't have to do it alone.
